Our latest Artist Profile delves into one of Nagle’s brightest shining star in the music department, Year Nine singer-songwriter, Al Mupotaringa. Al has been wowing Nagle crowds for the last year through ‘Nagle’s Got Talent’ (student fundraiser), and the 2018 Rags to Riches production, and has already amassed a wealth of fans after only picking up the guitar upon commencing in Year 7.
Al’s passion lies in creating his own music, and he says he loves the meanings and emotion he can convey and feel through his words. This pairs well with his staggered approach to song writing, where he says he completes whole songs very quickly based on what he is feeling at the time. This process is aided by Al’s proficiency in playing the guitar, as he has been taking lessons at Nagle for three years.
Al draws inspiration from artists of similar styles lyrically, such as American heart-throb, John Legend and 22-year-old up and comer, Jeremy Zucker. Al says the heartfelt and raw lyrics of both artists are inspiring and the wide reach they have is something that he aspires to have as well. Although he admires both artists Al says, break-through Australian artist Ruel really captures his imagination.
In more recent times Al has been working on getting more exposure through recording and releasing his music on the internet. He has also been working on putting his name out there for more live shows around Geraldton to gain some experience.
We wish Al all the best with his performances and eagerly await his next project. Keep up the great work Al!
